Motherhood has you ready for the challenges of a college degree

October 21, 2011

When you became a mother, you gave up a lot of things to be there for your children. Now, you generally don't go out on the town in the evening, have free time or have a flexible schedule. After getting adjusted to those major changes, a college degree really won't be that big of a change - you'll just need a way to balance it all.

As soon as you have found the required funding for your education in the form of college scholarships, grants and student loans, it's time to plan out your course schedule. Ideally, you can lay it out so that you can do a majority of your classes while your kids are at school.

On the other hand, reach out to your friends and family to see if they can take care of your kids one night per week. This way, you can load up one day with classes and you can look after your children and enjoy a lighter workload on the remaining days.

As a mother, you already have a unique set of skills to prepare for higher education, so there's no better time than now to realize your career aspirations.
