Finding the right avenues to pick the ideal major

October 21, 2011

Mothers who are thinking of heading back to school to complete a bachelor's degree have a wide world of academic disciplines to sift through. Choosing a major is a huge step in a person's college application process, so it's vital that these people do a bit of soul-searching, talk to a career counselor and reach out to their friends and family for guidance in their career endeavors.

First and foremost, a person should choose a degree based on her interests and aspirations for the future. There's no sense in picking a field just because the industry is hiring if a person isn't engaged by the subject matter. Be sure to talk to family and friends as well to gain some further perspective on a potential career.

Lastly, prospective students should look into a career counselor. This individual can take stock of a person's skills and personality traits to find a field that works for her.

Choosing a major is a huge decision in any mother's life, but college funding is just as important. Look into college scholarships and grants as a viable way of reducing one's tuition costs.
