October 24, 2011

You may not believe people when they say that college is more affordable than ever, but when you pursue the right avenues for college funding, you can avoid being stuck with long-term debt. However, looking into these options at the very beginning of your college application process is essential to adding them to your bottom line.

Student loans are one of the most popular means of covering college tuition, but you should look into federally subsidized loans before you look into private loans. Federal loans have additional incentives and payment plans that will ensure that you don't have to deal with fluctuating interest rates and a grace period is offered to give you time to look for a job and set up your payment schedule.

College scholarships and grants are other viable forms of funding that can drastically reduce your college expenses. There are countless options offered by businesses and charitable groups, so be sure to set aside plenty of time to research and apply for them.

Avoiding long-term debt is one of the primary concerns heading into college, but there are a number of methods to limit your overall costs.
