Reaching out to family and friends during your college admissions process

October 20, 2011

College is a huge commitment for any mother, so if you're heading off to complete a bachelor's or a graduate degree, you can't expect to do everything by yourself. When you have a huge exam on the horizon or have to meet after class with a professor, you need to know that someone will be there to look after your kids.

Higher education is a huge expense, so unless you're paying for it all with college scholarships and grants, you'll need another source of funding. Chances are, you'll be working a part-time job to help pay for your tuition, so you'll need someone who can look after your kids if you find yourself in a pinch.

Reach out to your neighbors, close friends and family members. As long as you're not expecting them to be babysitters all the time, they will probably help you look after your kids if you find yourself in a bind.

College will be a collective effort, so if you're taking the plunge as a mother, be sure that you have a support system in place to help make your career aspirations a reality.
