Provide a positive example for your kids by heading back to school

August 29, 2011

Many mothers have an internal struggle when considering heading back to school to finish their degrees. As a mom, you may feel guilty that you won’t be able to spend enough time with your kids, or afraid that you could miss a significant milestone. However, this is a rare teaching moment that will show your children the value of a good education.

Once you’ve completed the many applications for college scholarships and financial aid, you will have to make a schedule that is conducive to your family life. There’s no need to complete your degree all at once, so you can plan your schedule around your children.

Take some simple steps to factor in family time, such as doing your homework at the same time as your young children or bringing your teenager to a lecture. These are just a couple ways that you can communicate to your children just how valuable an education is and give them a view into your college life.

A college education is a lot of work, but balancing motherhood and a degree program is not impossible! Best of all, it holds the added benefit of giving your children an appreciation of education that will follow them for the rest of their lives.
