Going to college will be a crash course in multitasking

September 23, 2011

Mothers who are thinking of heading back to school to pursue a degree may feel a bit apprehensive about juggling the many responsibilities that come with higher education. But think of it this way - while your schedule may be harrowing for a few years, you will be able to give your kids a better life.

To be an effective college student, one has to be an expert in multitasking, and mothers already have a leg up in that department. Balancing housework, keeping kids on top of their schoolwork and maintaining a rigid schedule leaves them more than prepared for a college work load.

The secret to balancing motherhood and higher education is always looking for extra time to get ahead. Use the time waiting for the kids after soccer practice to catch up on reading or forgo a favorite television show to work on an assignment. Any work that can be done in advance will leave mothers more time to spend with their families.

With the many options of college scholarships, federal grants and other forms of financial aid, now is as good a time as ever to make the time to complete a degree program.
