Dedicate a night of the week to family time with the kids

October 18, 2011

Balancing a degree program and your obligations to your children can be a harrowing time, but there are ways that you can be a positive influence on your kids while completing your coursework. One idea is to leave an entire evening open to your kids to take them to a movie or help them with their homework.

The college application process up until the time you get into the classroom will be time-consuming. From researching college scholarships and grants to filling out applications to going on interviews, it will be hard to be around for your children as much as you were before.

The ideal solution is to set aside a night a week to do whatever your kids would like. Children thrive on planned activities, and they will look forward to spending time with their mother in an engaging setting. By doing a bit of extra work, you can leave a lasting impression with your kids that will let them know you're furthering your education for their benefit.

Higher education is a tough road for any student mother, but it's certainly possible to complete your degree and be the parent your children deserve.
