A cleaner house faster for single moms
November 28, 2012
Going to school and being the primary breadwinner ostensibly means a single mom already has two jobs, and adding a third can make the situation feel untenable. No matter how close it is to finals season, college scholarship standings can't stop a child from getting a cold or a boss needing someone to cover an extra shift. This can result in some overly stressful periods, and when it feels like there's no way to make the tasks easier, single moms might easily get frustrated.
People think better and feel nicer in a clean house, and since this is the closest thing to a sanctuary a single mom has, finding ways of making it seem more inviting can help make the rest of the tasks go more smoothly. There are some simple tricks to ensure a cleaner house, and here are just a few.
•Declutter the house. Get rid of extraneous decorations that make the room feel dirty or small, like porcelain figurines, old mail and bulky pieces of art. Anything that can be misconstrued as in the way will put a negative damper on how clean and comfortable the room seems.
•Organize every room. Put away everything and anything in an orderly, neat fashion so that it can be found or put back quickly later. With everything picked up, it will be much easier to clean, and it ensures that things will be simple to locate later. This can greatly reduce stress for single moms with college scholarships.
•Establish an "everything in its place" rule. After everything has been decluttered and organized successfully, this will give kids a basis for how things should look around the house, so it isn't just mom fighting the house cleaning war. If a child goes to leave a dirty plate on the counter or haphazardly kicks off his shoes when he comes home, he should pause for a moment and realize that isn't where these items goes and put them away properly. This can be a huge help in speeding up house cleaning.
•Clean as you go. Having a schedule of when to do certain chores helps make certain they get done in a timely fashion, but it may be best to also clean up when something needs it. If the carpet looks dirty or someone spills something, get out the vacuum or the paper towels right when it happens. If a single mom is too busy working on her college scholarship, she might want to consider leaving these tasks to the kids.
