A graduate degree will help you gain an edge in a tough job market

August 22, 2011

While the economy certainly shows signs of coming back from the brink, the job market is still more competitive than ever. With master's degree holders applying for entry-level jobs and other low-level positions, mothers who want to further their career may need to go back to school to find that dream job.

Start preparing by researching college scholarships and grants for parents that can help you cover some of the exorbitant costs of higher education. This will take some painstaking research and more than your fair share of essays, but it is well worth the extra effort.

It is often said that a bachelor's degree is the new high school diploma, but in today's job market, having a graduate degree could help you break out from the haze of entry-level positions and temporary jobs.

Heading back to school may seem like a huge hassle for a mother who has to balance a working life and a family, but if you really want to make a great life for yourself and your children, it's one of the best ways to stay ahead of the game.
