Telling your children that you’re going back to college
August 17, 2011
As you search for college scholarships, grant programs and other sources of income for your education, you have to talk to your children about your plans tactfully. You are providing an excellent example for your family, but you will have to explain to your little ones that you will see them a bit less in order to further your career.
With young children, you will have to break it to them as if you're going away for only a short period of time. You will still be there to make lunches, feed them dinner and pick them up from school, but much of your personal time will be taken up with class and schoolwork.
Set aside a day of the week that will be all about your child - take him to the bowling alley or to the playground and try to make an effort to study while he does his homework. Balancing motherhood and college can be tough, but it's not impossible, and your child will soon see how your hard work will pay off.
