Technology may help moms achieve a better work-life balance

Whether you are a student parent or a mother who is already part of the workforce, balancing all of your responsibilities can be a challenge. However, a recent study conducted by Staples revealed that using an electronic tablet - such as an iPad - may make achieving a work-life balance easier.

The survey of 200 tablet users found that 80 percent said the devices help them improve their work-life balance.

"Tablets offer fantastic convenience and a better work-life balance, making it easy for employees to keep information with them and utilize business apps, no matter where they go," said Staples' Ed Ludwigson.

The main reason that users cited for purchasing a tablet was portability. Many also said that the convenience of the devices as beneficial. Nearly 80 percent said they have used their tablet in bed, 35 percent have used it in the bathroom and 30 percent have brought it with them to a restaurant.

Additionally, 60 percent of tablet users say they are able to get more work done because their tablets.

As for what they're using them for, 75 percent say they use it to check emails, 40 percent connect with colleagues and 30 percent review and edit documents.

Using these devices may be especially beneficial for mothers pursuing or considering pursuing a college degree, as they allow them to get homework done or communicate with teachers or peers wherever they are.

While some may cite the high price of a tablet as a reason not to buy one, the good news is that there are several options available to help women pay for their education. For instance, college scholarships for mothers, grants for single mothers and other financial aid can help moms make the dream of going to college a reality.
