Fifteen-year-old graduates from college
May 7, 2012
The story of an Arizona teen who recently graduated from college may serve as inspiration for some parents who are considering whether or not to pursue a degree.
Kimberly Koerth, who's just 15-years-old, was able to take both high school and college classes simultaneously, starting at the age of 12. Oddly enough, when she received her associate's degree from Central Arizona College, she hadn't officially graduated from high school yet. It turns out the college graduation ceremony was scheduled before the high school one.
"It's kind of crazy, but I'm excited for the future and everything," Koerth told ABC News. "I didn't know I could graduate that fast, [but] it was actually really easy and I enjoyed the challenge of college classes. I don't want to be bored in the classroom."
Obviously, Koerth is different from the average teenager. She skipped a grade in elementary school and was fast-tracked into college when her local schools just couldn't challenge her any further.
As for what's next for this young college grad, ABC News reports that she is enrolled at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication for the fall semester. She plans to pursue both a bachelor's and master's degree through a joint program and graduate by the time she is 18.
Moms deciding whether or not they should take classes to obtain a college degree may consider this teen an inspiration. Luckily, they may also qualify for various grants for parents, scholarships for mothers, single mother scholarships or other financial aid to help make their dream of becoming a college grad a reality.
