Reach out to your professors when you get on campus
September 16, 2011
College is a wholly unique environment where students and professors are not only sharing ideas and passions, but they may just end up becoming a lifelong resource that you can turn to for advice. When you've completed the college scholarship and grant process and you're on campus for the first time, be sure to befriend a few of your favorite professors.
You don't want to be a teacher's pet, but at the same time, there is a wealth of knowledge to be gained outside the classroom. If you're having difficulty in your course or if you just want to pick your professors' brain for awhile, most of them would be more than willing to oblige. After all, they have dedicated their lives to academics, so they'll be willing to help an eager student.
A professor could also be a great person to provide a recommendation when you head off to your first high-profile job interview. Having a person with such a high degree of specialty in your field who admires your talents could be a fabulous ace in the hole that may just tip the scales in your favor with a future employer.
