Online parenting site creates scholarship for moms

June 21, 2012

Starting July 1, there will be a new scholarship for mothers returning to college: the Mommy Blogger Scholarship, offered by parenting blog Assistance for Single Mothers. The winner of the annual award will receive $1,000 and the chance to develop her own blog about motherhood.

On Tuesday, blog publishers Influenced Media announced the impending arrival of the scholarship program. In order to apply for the award, mothers simply visit the site and fill out the application. The organization will provide opportunities to add multiple entries as well, allowing moms to link the scholarship page to their blog post or mention the award on Twitter to gain more chances.

The site will accept submissions between July 1 and September 29. On October 1, the lucky mom will be selected.

"Our scholarship program is important to us because we want to give back the knowledge we have obtained throughout the years from all of our experiences and to help struggling moms create a voice or more income for their families," said Donny Gamble Jr., founder of Influenced Media.

The award recipient will win coaching sessions with a blogging expert and assistance creating a new blog or improving a current one. The Mommy Blogger Scholarship adds one more avenue of financial aid for mothers, and aims to help one more mom attend school and share her story.
