Living on campus with a child
November 7, 2011
Mothers pursuing a college education can face a number of challenges in order to receive their degree. While paying tuition is often easier thanks to college scholarships, financial aid and various federal and state grants, many parent students say that paying for housing and child care is especially difficult for them while going to school.
Many universities now offer on campus housing for single parents and families. Some say this option is ideal for parents who want to remain active in both university life as well as their child's life.
Some of the colleges that have special housing options for mothers include Endicott College, Wilson College, College Misericordia, Texas College, Berea College, Baldwin-Wallace College, the College of Saint Mary and Saint Paul's College.
The Christian Science Monitor reports that a special residential program for single mothers at Baldwin-Wallace College has seen as many as three-quarters of its mothers graduate.
"People have gone on to become accountants, lawyers, college administrators," director of college relations, George Richard, told the news source.
Whether you choose to pursue your dream of getting a college education online or in person, many scholarships for parents are designated to be used to pay for college as well as housing and child care costs.
