Embrace any college internships that come your way during your program
September 15, 2011
Now that you've completed the college scholarship and grant process and made it on campus, there are a wealth of opportunities that higher education can afford to you. If your degree program offers an internship in your field, it could be a fabulous way to get a head start to build relevant work experience.
An internship is a great way to get some real-world experience in your field. Employers are often far more impressed by real world experience in your profession than your GPA or other accomplishments. Even an unpaid position is worth the sacrifice so you can build up a list of recommendations and clips for your portfolio.
Most colleges also offer credit for internships, so they have the added benefit of helping you complete your degree sooner. Be sure to contact your advisor as soon as possible to see what's available and how it can factor into your schedule.
Now that you've made the financial sacrifice to go back to school and earn your degree, don't let any opportunity pass you by! An internship may just give your resume the boost it needs to help you land the job of your dreams.
