Pinching pennies when shopping for textbooks

August 14, 2012

While grants for parents and scholarships for moms can help curb the price of tuition, students might want to look for additional ways to reduce the cost of expenses such as college textbooks. In order to complete coursework, most professors assign books to students, which need to be paid for out of pocket.

As a student, there are many tactics you can use to save money on these crucial items. First, the Huffington Post recommends renting textbooks from the internet. There are several websites you can go to, like Campus Book Rentals.com or Book Renter.com, to borrow books that you need on a semester basis.

Next, consider looking for the eBook version of your books if you own a Kindle or other digital reading device. In many cases, the digital copy of a textbook can save you more money than if you were to buy the physical version.

Finally, don't hesitate to use the resources available to you through your school. Your college bookstore may sell used textbooks at discounted prices, and you might be able to rent books through your campus library.
