Pursue a new career as a chance for a more stable lifestyle

June 27, 2011

If you're among the millions of Americans who have been let go from your job after years of stable pay, the reality is that for many, going back to school to earn a degree in another field seems to be the route to go.

USA Today talked to a number of Americans who have been faced with this all-too-real scenario. One mother who worked for two different factory jobs before being let go finally made the decision to go back to school to earn a degree in another field. She chose to take classes towards a profession within the medical industry to secure a more stable job, as the risk of trying to find another factory job far outweighed pursing a new career.

Stopping everything you've known and starting from scratch may seem like something too far outside your comfort zone, but it may ultimately be the best decision for you and your family. The mother in the article also touched on another reason that made her choice a bit easier. She said that a number of college scholarships and financial aid for mothers available gave her a reason to overcome her fears.

Another man in this article chose to go back for a higher education because, he said, "I'd like to get into something where I have some kind of security." Stop living in fear of being the next to be let go - consider your interests and pursue a new career path during a time when an education may be the key to your success.
