Transferring is common

March 6, 2012

While many college students enter college with the intention of graduating from the same school, the reality is that many transfer to other schools first.

According to a recent report by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, one out of three students transfers during their college careers at least once.

The report, which analyzed the behaviors of more than 2.8 million students, found that the second year of college is the most common time to transfer, with 37 percent of students choosing to go to a different school. In addition, a quarter of students transfer more than once.

While the data did not include reasons on the high number of transferring students, some suggest that high tuitions may cause many to seek less expensive schools.

"Some students who start at more expensive schools end up concluding that the price tag is too high," according to CBS News." The thrill of getting into a dream school can fade after a family faces steep monthly tuition payments."

Mothers who are pursuing a college degree should know that they don't have to let the high cost of college deter them from realizing their dreams.

Applying for various grants for parents, scholarships for mothers and other financial aid can make the financial stress of going to college less difficult to handle.
