SR Educations awards single mom with $2,000 scholarship

July 25, 2012

Single mom Nicole Schmidt was recently announced as the winner of the June 2012 $2,000 Mom Scholarship from SR Education Group. Schmidt currently attends Marion Technical College (MCT) in Ohio while raising her two children.

SR Education's scholarships for moms and single parents are based on their submitted applications, which focus on three questions: how a college degree will help their children, what their financial circumstances are and why they have chosen their specific major. The company's websites reach more than half a million students each month, providing them with college resources and the opportunity for aid.

In addition to Schmidt's award, SR Education presented five finalists with $100 each to help pay for college. Their scholarships, like Schmidt's, can make achieving a degree easier. One main reason that Schmidt is pursuing a degree is her children.

"By me going to college and obtaining a certificate for medical billing and coding, I believe it will show my children that I am a strong mom and that I want a good life for them," said Schmidt. "I want my daughters to see the importance and value of a college education."

She continues her studies at MCT, which was founded in 1970 to improve employment opportunities for area residents, and hopes to one day work in cancer registry or auditing.
