GoCollege randomly chooses first 2012 Abacus Scholarship Sweepstakes recipient

July 31, 2012

The online student resource GoCollege recently awarded Sarah Arnold with the first Abacus Scholarship Sweepstakes of 2012. In a unique fashion, this scholarship selects its winners at random, meaning anyone can win, from sports stars to college moms. The organization presents those chosen with winnings of $1,234.

The website was founded in 1997 and provides students with information and tips about admissions and finances at university, helping manage college costs with the scholarships, another of which will be offered in December.

"We believe that every student's journey is valuable, so we want to offer a random act of kindness to students who are putting forth the effort - and for us, this means making a respectable financial benefit tangible and putting it within reach for all college students," said GoCollege business director Giovanna Villanueva.

While the U.S. government provides aid to individuals with severe financial need and other organizations grant scholarships for moms, the GoCollege award has no specifications for college students applying.
