Earn a degree to cushion your retirement

June 30, 2011

As a mom, you may have been out of the conventional working world for some time, but through your everyday routines - making lunches, running the kids around and keeping your house in order- may have prepared you even more than you think for a profession that will bring added income to your household.

Going back to school to earn a degree once your children have become self sufficient may be a way to keep you busy while making money to put towards things you want to do, or just as added security for retirement.

Choosing a career path may be challenging, so think about things you enjoy doing and look into professions that are both thriving and a solid money maker. If you're worried about the costs of school being an issue because you're trying to put your kids through college, know that there are many scholarships for parents and even grants for parents aimed at giving you the necessary means to earn a degree. You may never get another chance like this, so why not take it and continue to be successful even after you've finished raising great kids?
