Avoid holiday shopping crowds online

November 23, 2011

The holidays can be a stressful time for anyone, especially student parents who are busy balancing the demands of school and family and preparing for finals.

Many mothers who are attending college also have an added financial stress this time of year. Although grants for parents, college scholarships and other financial aid help them pay for their education, they simply may not have a large budget to spend when purchasing holiday gifts for family and friends.

A lot of people who are budget-conscience about their holiday shopping wake up early (or stay up all night) to take advantage of Black Friday sales that feature too-good-to-pass-up deals. While this strategy is a fun and worthwhile one for some, others simply can't imagine dealing with the crowds this traditionally busy shopping day is notorious for.

Those who want to save money and enjoy a quiet and peaceful shopping experience may consider taking advantage of Cyber Monday instead. This popular shopping day - on November 28 - is traditionally the busiest day of the year for online retailers. And, like Black Friday, merchants will offer great deals on Cyber Monday. Many will also ship your items for free.

To find the best deals, check out the sales fliers or websites from your favorite stores this weekend. Signing up for email alerts from the stores you like to shop in can also help ensure you won't miss a great online deal.

Like online college classes, the best part may just be that you can shop from home whenever it's convenient for you.
